Colonic Diverticulosis: Important Exam Notes

Colonic diverticulosis refers to the presence of diverticula in the colon. Most acquired colonic diverticula are pseudodiverticula, in which mucosa and submucosa protrude through the muscular layer at points of weakness.

Common site

In Western populations, diverticulosis commonly affects the sigmoid colon. The distribution varies between populations, and right-sided disease is more common in some Asian populations.
